flags in a vacuum

There is hopeful symbolism in the fact that flags do not wave in a vacuum.

- Arthur C. Clarke, who defined serious science-fiction with such books as '2001: A Space Odyssey' (developed in parallel with the film), 'Childhood's End' and many others.
